Characteristics of an
Effective Educator
The skills
needed to be an effective educator involve more than just being knowledgeable
in one’s subject area. Educators must view their students as individuals, each
with a unique way of learning. Effective
educators are prepared, set clear and fair expectations, have a patient and
caring attitude toward students and provide a positive learning environment.
They are able to recognize areas of weakness and adapt lesson plans to meet individual
student needs. They should act as a positive role model for students,
demonstrating the type of interactions and attitudes students need for
successful school and societal interactions. An effective educator’s overall
goal should be to prepare their students to be successful, independent members
of society.
